Suryakumar Yadav Wins Best Fielder Award from Jay Shah

Suryakumar Yadav was honored with the ‘Best Fielder’ award by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. This recognition came after his incredible catch to dismiss David Miller, a moment that proved crucial in India’s final victory.

The fielding coach, who introduced the idea of awarding the Best Fielder to motivate players, announced the award. He praised the Indian team for their exceptional fielding, comparing them to a “pack of wolves” who left no effort spared.

“In big games, we talk about rising to the occasion. Today, we didn’t just rise; we conquered,” said the Indian fielding coach.

He continued, “The intensity, camaraderie, and resilience we showed today and throughout the tournament were extraordinary. We fielded like a pack of wolves, as Rahul bhai and Rohit often say. Everyone knew their roles, and together we seized every opportunity, leaving no stone unturned,” added Dilip.

India made a remarkable comeback to prevent South Africa from winning their first World Cup title, securing a seven-run victory. Suryakumar Yadav’s decisive catch in the final over was a key moment.

Suryakumar displayed perfect judgment, composure, and athleticism as he caught David Miller’s shot, with South Africa needing 16 runs from the final over.

Earlier, South Africa needed 30 runs from 30 balls, but Hardik Pandya triggered a collapse by dismissing Henrich Klaasen, who was set at 52. South Africa then lost four wickets for 17 runs, ending their chase at 169/8, short of India’s 177.

“Thank you so much, Dilip Sir, for this opportunity and for receiving this medal from Jay sir,” said Suryakumar, receiving cheers from his teammates.
