Question: Q. 2. Why does current in a steady state not flow in a capacitor connected across a battery ? However momentary current does flow during charging or discharging of capacitor. Explain.

Solution:

Ans. (i) In steady state no current flows because we have two sources (battery and fully charged capacitor) of equal potential connected in opposition.

(ii) During charging/discharging, there is a momentary flow of current as the potential of the two sources are not equal to each other.
