[A] Q. 20. A battery of emf 10 V and internal resistance 3ohm is connected to a resistor. If the current in the circuit is 0.5 A, find :

(i) the resistance of the resistor;

(ii) the terminal voltage of the battery.

A [Delhi Comptt. I, II, III 2012]

Ans. Given : E=10 V,r=3Ω,I=0.5 A,R= ?, V= ?

(i)

I=ER+r

R+r=EI=100.5=20Ω

or R=20r

R=203=17Ω

(ii)

V=IR=0.5×17=8.5 V
