The bar graphs show the percentage increase in income and expenditure of various telecom companies during a period

Let the income of the Airtel in 2014-15 be equal to Rs. 500000 crores. If the expenditure of Airtel in 2016-17 is equal to the income of Airtel in 2014-15, then the income of Airtel in 2016-17 will be what per cent more than the expenditure of these companies in 2015-16 (approximately)?

(1) $51 \%$

(2) $74 \%$

(3) $66 \%$

(4) $64 \%$

(5) $60 \%$

Solution: (1)

Income of Airtel in 2016-17 $=$ Rs. $\left(500000 \times \frac{115}{100} \times \frac{117}{100}\right)$crores $=$ Rs. 672750 crores

Expenditure of Airtel in 201516 $=$ Rs. $\left(500000 \times \frac{100}{112}\right)$ crores $=$ Rs. 446428 crores

$\therefore$ Required per cent $=\left(\frac{672750-446428}{446428}\right) \times 100$ $=\frac{22632200}{446428} \approx 51 \%$
