The number of male candidates who qualified in university D’s entrance exam is approximately what per cent more than the number of male candidates who qualified in university B’s entrance exam?

(1) 12

(2) 5

(3) 8

(4) 16

(5) 10

Solution: (2)

Qualified male candidates :

University D $\Rightarrow \frac{704 \times 3}{8} = 264$

University $B \Rightarrow \frac{576 \times 7}{16} = 252$

$∴$ Required per cent $= (\frac{264 - 252}{252}) \times 100 = \frac{1200}{252}$ $\approx 5$
