If the male population above poverty line for State R is 1.9 million, then what is the total population of State R?

(1) 4.5 million

(2) 4.85 million

(3) 5.35 million

(4) 6.25 million

(5) 6 million

Solution: (4)

Total population of state R= x millions (let).

∴ Population above poverty line =76x100=19x25 millions

Male population above poverty line =25×19x25=38x125 millions

∴38x125=1.9 millions

⇒x=1.9×12538=6.25 millions
