Useful Apps And Extensions To Keep You Free From Distractions
Useful apps and extensions to keep you free from distractions Are you spending too much time on social media and regretting it later? Don’t worry, there’s a solution. We’ve compiled a list of apps and extensions that can help reduce distractions. These tools have been personally tested and found effective.
Here’s the list of apps that have helped me stay focused. They all have free versions that work well. If you want to unlock all features, you can download their modded versions. Please be careful while downloading modded versions to avoid malware. Using a secure browser like Brave can help. The top results on a Google search usually have the mod available for download. Remember, it’s never too late to improve your productivity.
Here is the list:
Alarmy: It is a clock for heavy sleepers like myself.
- Set “Challenges” in order to put the alarm to sleep
- Has anti-shutdown, so that you can’t put the phone to shutdown when the alarm is ringing.
- Features like Wake Up Check (basically alarm rings again in 5 minutes in order to ensure you are fully awake) and Alarm Power-ups (like ringing really loud alarm if you are unresponsive) are included the Premium Version of Alarmy.
Digital Detox: App Blocker
- Has Anti Shutdown and Anti Uninstall so that you can’t uninstall it when the Lock is on
- Can Add Friends (but you have none)
StayFocused (or AppBlock, both of them are identical): Another App Blocker, but not as tough as Digital Detox.
- Has Anti Uninstall but the downfall is that you can’t open settings when the lock is on (well it makes sense cause you can uninstall any app from settings)
- Found it helpful, since digital detox is annoying af due to being glitchy when in lock mode.
Minimalist Pomodoro Timer: Just a simple pomodoro timer.
-
Looks good and good for people who love aesthtics.
-
Also has statistics, but those are locked behind the Premium Version
Forest: Alternative to Minimalist Pomodoro Timer
-
Earn coins as you study and plant virtual trees. Coins can be used to buy new type trees which can be used in the garden.
-
Plant Real Trees but locked behind the premium features but use mod to unlock it.
Tired of Seeing Ads on every single app? Go to settings and search “Private DNS”, click on it and set it as “Private DNS provider hostname” and fill “dns.adguard.com” in the blank below it. Enjoy adfree life.
minimalist phone: Productivity Launcher for the Phone
-
Rename apps and Hide the Unwanted apps
-
Looks minimalist but steals the colorfulness of the phone and makes it look bland and boring (which helps you to not use phone).
-
Alternate to this is OLauncher, which is also open-source and has all the features for free.
Keep Me Out: This is an exceptional app.
- It effectively locks the phone, making it impossible to breach.
- The only feature it currently lacks is the ability to add apps to a whitelist. However, according to their website, this feature will be added soon.
- Advice: This app is particularly useful when you find yourself mindlessly scrolling. Simply activate it, and you won’t be able to access your phone for a specified duration.
FrameLapse: This is a unique approach.
- This time-lapse app is used to create an 8-hour time-lapse for studying, which surprisingly served as a motivation. You might find it helpful too.
Todoist: Simple ToDo List, and has a karma/reward system (+1 Karma for completing the task), simple to use.
Milki Pomodoro: It also looks good but free version sucks ass cause who the fuck uses a 25min pomodoro (and yes it is fixed, locked behind the paywall), Has leaderboard, but Forest also has the feature.
Study Bunny: Alright, this app is cool and an alternative to forest app.
YPT, FLIP, Flipd: All these were similar almost (by the looks they look similar).
LessPhone: Almost similar to the other phone launchers mentioned in the above list
Habitica: Good for Gamers, based on reward earning system, is also available on PC, so you can use it anywhere on any device you want.
Brave Browser or Firefox with a Adblock: Must have to save your ass from clicking on unwanted ads and downloading malware files.
Blocos: An Interesting way of managing your day.
For PC:
Cold Turkey Blocker: 10 out of 10, totally recommended.
-
Block Websites and Even Softwares that you run on your PC
-
Add Allowance or even use a Pomodoro Timer so that you can use a website x minutes per day.
-
Hard to Bypass
-
Frozen Turkey Mode, which just straight locks you out of the laptop for the assigned time.
How to Download and Install the Pro Version of Cold Turkey Blocker (make sure to install python from Microsoft store, you can uninstall it later after unlocking Cold Turkey Blocker)
- Download and Install Cold Turkey to default location.
- Run it once (no need to close it)
- Copy and Paste This code in a .txt file.
- Save it as “script.py” on the desktop. (Don’t forget to change .txt to .py)

Another method to block websites, is to use the “host file” present in C: Drive, Check this website for more info on how to do it.
Forest (Extension): If you have registered on the Modded/Premium using email, then you can also use the Forest App Extension on the Web.
Todoist (Software, Extension, and App): This is a to-do list app that can sync all your tasks across different platforms, allowing you to check your tasks anywhere.
Habitica (Website and App): If you enjoy RPG games and want to make task management fun, Habitica is a great choice. It gamifies your tasks and is completely free.
Extra Tips: Physical Notebook: Consider using a physical notebook as a journal. Write down your daily routine and review it in the evening. This practice can provide insights into how you spend your time.
Thoughts Notebook: While studying, jot down any thoughts that come to mind in a separate notebook. Review them later. This method can be surprisingly effective.
