GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 - Age Limit, Qualification

According to the GATE eligibility criteria for 2024, there is no age limit for applying to IIT M.Tech admission. Candidates must fulfill the GATE exam eligibility requirements to be allowed to appear for the national-level engineering postgraduate entrance test. It is recommended that candidates carefully review the eligibility criteria for GATE 2024 before filling out the application forms. The eligibility criteria for GATE 2024 will be determined separately for different IITs. Candidates are advised to refer to the article below for more information on GATE 2024 eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria for the GATE exam vary depending on the paper that candidates are appearing for. IISc Bangalore has released the basic eligibility criteria for GATE 2024. Before starting the application process, candidates are recommended to check their eligibility for the exam. Indian nationality candidates as well as candidates from countries other than India are eligible to apply for GATE 2024.

Qualification for GATE Exam
  • Candidates who have completed their graduation in engineering/technology or have a Master’s degree in a relevant science subject are eligible to appear for the GATE exam.
  • Candidates who are in the pre-final or final year of their qualifying degree can also apply for GATE 2024.
  • Candidates who have obtained or are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India must be in their 3rd year or higher, or have completed a Bachelor’s degree (minimum duration of 3 years) in Engineering/Technology/Science/Arts/Commerce.
GATE Age Limit
  • There is no age limit for GATE 2024.
GATE Attempt Limit
  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the GATE exam.

2024 GATE Economics Eligibility

Candidates applying for the GATE exam in 2024 must have a Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science, Arts, or Commerce (three-year program). Even candidates who are currently appearing for their final year exams are eligible to apply for the GATE exam.

Professional Societies Conducting Examination Equivalent to B.E./B.Tech

Several professional societies conduct examinations equivalent to a B.E./B.Tech degree. These societies include:

  • The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
  • The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
  • The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
  • The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including the Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChemE)
  • The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE)
  • The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
What if a candidate is pursuing a qualifying degree from another country?

In cases where candidates have obtained or are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India, the GATE eligibility criteria will be followed. Candidates must currently be in the 3rd year or higher, or have completed a Bachelor’s degree of at least three years duration in Engineering/Technology/Science/Architecture/Humanities. If a candidate has a higher degree or is pursuing one, they should select the minimum required qualifying degree when filling out the GATE 2024 application form.

GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria - Documents Required

Candidates applying for the GATE entrance exam need to upload certain documents to support their eligibility criteria. These documents should be uploaded while filling out the application form. Important points regarding the eligibility documents are as follows:

  • Candidates completing the qualifying examinations in 2024 or earlier must submit the degree certificate/provisional degree certificate/course completion certificate/membership certificate issued by designated authorities.
  • Candidates expected to meet the GATE eligibility criteria in 2024 or later should upload their Provisional Certificate Letter issued by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department, or a copy of the marks card for Section A of AMIE, etc.
  • PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category candidates need to upload a PwD certificate issued by a recognized authority. Candidates with at least 40% impairment will be provided a concession in the application fee and must also submit the certificate at the allotted institute during admission.
  • Candidates with backlogs in any subjects of their qualifying examination must upload a copy of the final year mark sheet issued by the institute where they will pursue their qualifying examination. Internet-downloaded mark sheets will not be accepted.
  • SC/ST category candidates must upload a valid document proof to avail of a concession in the application fee. Only certificates issued by authorized officials will be considered.
  • Dyslexic candidates must submit a certificate stating their condition issued by authorities in order to receive the services of a scribe.
