Forms of Tenses

Tenses are grammatical forms that indicate the time of an action or event. There are three main types of tenses: present, past, and future. Each of these tenses has four forms: simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous.

Simple Tenses

Perfect Tenses

Perfect tenses are used to express actions or events that happened in the past and have a connection to the present. The present perfect tense is used to express actions or events that happened in the past and have a result in the present. The past perfect tense is used to express actions or events that happened in the past before another action or event. The future perfect tense is used to express actions or events that will have happened in the future by a certain time.

Examples of Perfect Tenses

• Present: I have read a book.
• Past: I had read a book before I went to bed.
• Future: I will have read a book by the end of the week.

Perfect Continuous Tenses

Perfect continuous tenses are used to express actions or events that started in the past and are still happening now or will continue to happen in the future. The past perfect continuous tense is used to express actions or events that started in the past and continued up to another action or event. The future perfect continuous tense is used to express actions or events that will have started in the past and will still be happening in the future by a certain time.
