Young IIT Patna Takes The Cudgel To Lead
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Patna, a relatively new addition to the IIT family, has proven its mettle by securing the 10th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) list. This ranking was released by India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The NIRF rankings, which were announced in the first week of April 2016, are based on five key parameters:
- Teaching, Learning, and Resources
- Research, Consulting and Collaborative Performance
- Graduation Outcome
- Outreach and Inclusivity;
- Perception.
IIT Patna’s campus is a sprawling green oasis located 40 km away from the city. The 501-acre campus is situated in the village of Amhara, in the town of Bihta, approximately 35 km from the outskirts of Patna. The new campus of IIT Patna was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 25, 2015. The campus features an arch-shaped administrative building, three academic blocks for various departments, a tutorial building with classrooms, and separate workshops for civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
Currently, the second phase of construction is underway on the campus. The campus already boasts four boys’ hostel blocks with 940 single-occupancy rooms, a common room, a mess, and a music room. These facilities ensure that students have everything they need for a comfortable and productive stay. The entire campus is also equipped with Wi-Fi. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Patna is a hub of innovation and learning, with its buildings adorned in calming shades of beige and cream. Dr. Bhattacharyya, who was appointed as the director in April 2015, previously served as a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay.
