JEE Success Stories: From Procrastination to 98%ile
Many of us start our JEE preparation journey with high hopes and aspirations. However, life often throws curveballs at us, and we may find ourselves struggling with procrastination, personal issues, or ineffective study materials. This was the case for one of our students, who despite being a diligent student and a topper, found himself securing only an 89%ile in his first attempt at JEE.
The Turning Point
The realization that the classes were not up to the mark and the lack of structure in the YouTube lectures he was following led him to seek a different approach. He discovered the 45-day crash course, which offered comprehensive lectures on almost all JEE chapters till mains level in around 2 hours per chapter.
The Strategy
Using this course, along with a few other resources and PYQ series, he devised a clear-cut strategy. Despite procrastinating and studying effectively for just 8 hours a day, he managed to secure a 98%+ile in his second attempt just one month later. He believes that if students employ his strategies more effectively and avoid procrastination, cracking a 99%ile+ is easily achievable.
The Steps to Success
Here are the steps he recommends for your first attempt prep, starting from now till your paper one month later:
45 Day Crash Course
Start following this religiously for almost the entire theory part. The lecture series is completely free, with all the notes available in a PDF format. Make short notes and note important formulae and stuff you know you’ll forget. If you want, put sticky notes for the most important formulae/exceptions on your wall and go through them every morning.
45 Day Crash Course DPPs
Almost every lecture has a DPP attached to it in the Google Docs page they give you, so try and do that too. Once you do it once, try attempting it once more a couple of days later to ensure you didn’t forget it all.
Stay tuned for the second part of this guide where we will delve deeper into the strategies for JEE preparation.
ExamGoal for PYQs/Mocks
It’s crucial to solve almost all papers of all attempts for the years 2019-2022, and even older ones if you get the time. For this, we recommend a relatively unknown website called EXAMGOAL. It offers the option to do PYQs from individual chapters and see your performance in a detailed format. The test-taking infrastructure is incredibly smooth, and you can customize your mocks to your liking. Your later part of this one-month prep should have at least 1 or 2 mocks a day at the very least.
NCERT for Organic/Inorganic
While studying from NCERT is obvious, instead of going through the book repeatedly, make short notes of the things you didn’t see mentioned in the 45 Day CC. Keep these in a separate page titled - NCERT extra chem notes.
Use Cold Turkey Blocker for Distractions
If you’re studying on a laptop, download this blocker to eliminate distractions permanently for a time limit of 1 month. Block all websites like Reddit, Twitter, or any other site that might distract you. Even block YouTube, but ensure you have a way to access the 45 Day CC lectures.
Guide for Advanced
We are considering making a guide for advanced as well, but the gist of that is to use online tutorials but with some more books for practice questions.
Final Words
Do not take this prep lightly. A good score in the 1st attempt will be a massive relief for not only you but your parents as well. And remember, Mains IS EASY. You don’t have to do all questions, just maximize your marks.
