Properties Of Solids And Liquids Question 560

Question: DIRECTION: Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follows:

In a thermally insulated tube of cross sectional area GMm2R a liquid of thermal expansion coefficient 103K1 is flowing. Its velocity at the entrance is 0.1m/s . At the middle of the tube a heater of a power of 10kW is heating the liquid. The specific heat capacity of the liquid is 1.5 kJ/(kg K), and its density is 1500kg/m3 at the entrance. What is the density of liquid at the exit?

Options:

A) 1450 kg/m3

B) 1400 kg/m3

C) 1350 kg/m3

D) None of these

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: C

Solution:

ρ1v1A1=ρ2v2A2

m =1500 kg/m3× 0.1m/s × 4(cm)2

msΔT=10000

1500×0.1×4×104×1500×ΔT=10000

ΔT=1000090=10009C

ρ2=ρ1(1+γΔT)=1500(1+1×103×10009)=1350kg/m3

ρ2v2A2=ρ1v1A1

1350×v2=1500×0.1

v2=1/9m/s

Volume rate of flow at the end of tube

=A2v2=4×104×19

=49×104m3=409×105m3

Volume rate of flow at the entrance = A1v1

=0.1×4×104=4×105m3

Hence, difference of volume rate of flow at the two ends

=(4094)×105=49×105m3
