Equilibrium Question 685
Question: Raising the temperature of an equilibrium system [MP PMT 1987]
Options:
A) Favours the exothermic reaction only
B) Favours the endothermic reaction only
C) Favours both the exothermic and endothermic reactions
D) Favours neither the exothermic nor endothermic reactions
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: B
Solution:
According to le-Chatelier’s principle . If you increase the temperature, the position of equilibrium will move in such a way as to reduce the temperature again. It will do that by favouring the reaction which absorbs heat. In the equilibrium we’ve just looked at, that will be the back reaction because the forward reaction is exothermic.
