Question 21 - 2024 (31 Jan Shift 2)

In the reaction of potassium dichromate, potassium chloride and sulfuric acid (conc.), the oxidation state of the chromium in the product is $(+)$

Show Answer

Answer (6)

Solution

$K _2 Cr _2 O _7(s)+4 KCl(s)+6 H _2 SO _4$ (conc.) $\rightarrow 2 CrO _2 Cl _2(g)+6 KHSO _4+3 H _2 O$

This reaction is called chromyl chloride test.

Here oxidation state of $Cr$ is +6.
