Gravitation - Result Question 12
12. Two spheres of masses $m$ and $M$ are situated in air and the gravitational force between them is F. The space around the masses is now filled with a liquid of specific gravity 3 . The gravitational force will now be
[2003]
(a) $\frac{F}{9}$
(b) $3 F$
(c) $F$
(d) $\frac{F}{3}$
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: 12. (c)
Solution:
- (c) Gravitational force is independent of medium, Hence, this will remain same.
Since, $f=G \frac{M_1 M_2}{d^{2}}$ therefore the affecting factor are:
(i) Mass of the two bodies i.e., $f \propto M_1 M_2$ When mass increases gravitational force increase.
(ii) The distance between thier centers; i.e., $f \alpha$ $\frac{1}{d^{2}}$ when the distance increases gravitational force decreases.
