States of Matter 1 Question 19
19. Which of the following volume $(V)$ temperature $(T)$ plots represents the behaviour of one mole of an ideal gas at the atmospheric pressure?
(2002, 3M) (a)
(c)
(b)
Show Answer
Solution:
- Option (b) and (d) are ruled out on the basis that at the initial point of $273 \mathrm{~K}, 1 \mathrm{~atm}$, for 1.0 mole volume must be $22.4 \mathrm{~L}$, and it should increase with rise in temperature.
Option (a) is ruled out on the basis that initial and final points are not connected by the ideal gas equation $V \propto T$, i.e. $V / T$ do not have the same value at the two points.
In option (c), at the initial point, the volume is $22.4 \mathrm{~L}$ as required by ideal gas equation and $(V / T)$ have the same value at both initial and final points.
