Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry 2 Question 20
20. For the redox reaction
$$ \mathrm{MnO}{4}^{-}+\mathrm{C}{2} \mathrm{O}{4}^{2-}+\mathrm{H}^{+} \longrightarrow \mathrm{Mn}^{2+}+\mathrm{CO}{2}+\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} $$
The correct coefficients of the reactants for the balanced reaction are
$\mathrm{MnO}_{4}^{-}$ | $\mathrm{C}{2} \mathrm{O}{4}^{2-}$ | $\mathrm{H}^{+}$ | |
---|---|---|---|
(a) | 2 | 5 | 16 |
(b) | 16 | 5 | 2 |
(c) | 5 | 16 | 2 |
(d) | 2 | 16 | 5 |

Show Answer
Solution:
- The balanced redox reaction is :
$$ 2 \mathrm{MnO}{4}^{-}+5 \mathrm{C}{2} \mathrm{O}{4}^{2-}+16 \mathrm{H}^{+} \longrightarrow 2 \mathrm{Mn}^{2+}+10 \mathrm{CO}{2}+16 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} $$
Hence, the coefficients of reactants in balanced reaction are 2, 5 and 16 respectively.
