pBlock ElementsII 1 Question 50
50. Nitrogen (I) oxide is produced by
(a) thermal decomposition of $\mathrm{NH}{4} \mathrm{NO}{3}$
(b) disproportionation of $\mathrm{N}{2} \mathrm{O}{4}$
(c) thermal decomposition of $\mathrm{NH}{4} \mathrm{NO}{2}$
(d) interaction of hydroxylamine and nitrous acid
Numerical Value
Show Answer
Solution:
- $\mathrm{NH}{4} \mathrm{NO}{3} \xrightarrow{\text { Heat }} \mathrm{N}{2} \mathrm{O}+2 \mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{O}$
$\mathrm{NH}{2} \mathrm{OH} \cdot \mathrm{HCl}+\mathrm{NaNO}{2} \longrightarrow \mathrm{NaCl}+2 \mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{O}+\mathrm{N}{2} \mathrm{O}$
However, $\mathrm{NH}{4} \mathrm{NO}{2}$ on heating gives $\mathrm{N}_{2}$.
