(b) $\mathrm{SnO}_{2}$

(c) $\mathrm{ZnO}$

(d) $\mathrm{SiO}_{2}$

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. Carbon monoxide is a neutral oxide, all others are amphoteric :

$$ \begin{aligned} \mathrm{SnO}{2}+4 \mathrm{HCl} & \longrightarrow \mathrm{SnCl}{4}+2 \mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{O} \ \mathrm{ZnO}+2 \mathrm{HCl} & \longrightarrow \mathrm{ZnCl}{2}+\mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{O} \ \mathrm{SiO}{2}+2 \mathrm{NaOH} & \longrightarrow \mathrm{Na}{2} \mathrm{SiO}{3}+\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O} \end{aligned} $$

$\mathrm{SnO}{2}$ and $\mathrm{ZnO}$ also react with $\mathrm{NaOH}$. $\mathrm{SiO}{2}$ is also attacked by $\mathrm{H}{3} \mathrm{PO}{4}$.
