Chemical and Ionic Equilibrium 2 Question 22
22. Amongst the following hydroxides, the one which has the lowest value of $K_{\text {sp }}$ at ordinary temperature (about $25^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$ ) is
$(1990,1 \mathrm{M})$
(a) $\operatorname{Mg}(\mathrm{OH})_{2}$
(b) $\mathrm{Ca}(\mathrm{OH})_{2}$
(c) $\mathrm{Ba}(\mathrm{OH})_{2}$
(d) $\mathrm{Be}(\mathrm{OH})_{2}$
Show Answer
Solution:
- In case of hydroxides of Group II A, solubility increases down the group. Therefore, $\mathrm{Be}(\mathrm{OH}){2}$ is least soluble, has lowest value of $K{\text {sp }}$.
