81. Tendrils exhibit/twining of tendrils is due to
(a) thigmotropism
(b) seismonasty
(c) heliotropism
(d) diageotropism
Show Answer
Answer : a
Hints & Solutions
(a) Twining of tendrils is due to thigmotropism i.e. movement due to the contact with a foreign body (touch). Thigmotropism occurs due to actions of the plant hormone auxin. Touched cells produce auxin which then transfers auxin to nontouched cells. These untouched cells then grow faster causing them to bend around the stimulus. The hormone ethylene helps in changing the shape or turgidity of the cell.
