(a) After ovulation ovarian follicle, undergo several stages of degeneration. The follicular cells enlarge and fill with a yellow fluid to form corpus luteum. Secretion of hormones from the corpus luteum will stop within 14 days after ovulation if the oocyte is not fertilized and it then degenerates into a scar within the ovary, known as a corpus albicans.
