Biomolecules Question 10
10. “Ramachandran plot” is used to confirm the structure of
(a) DNA
(b) RNA
(c) Proteins
(d) Triacylglycerides
Show Answer
Answer : c
Hints & Solutions
(c) A Ramachandran plot, is a way to visualise energetically allowed regions for backbone dihedral angles $\psi$ against $\phi$ of amino acid residues to protein structure. It is used to analyse the structure of a protein, the conformation of the amino acids present in the protein and close contacts between the atoms. Ramachandran was an Indian physicist who was known for his work that led to his creation of the Ramachandran plot for understanding peptide structure. He was the first to propose a triplehelical model for the structure of collagen.
