Nuclear Physics Question 3

Question 3 - 2024 (27 Jan Shift 1)

In a nuclear fission process, a high mass nuclide $(A \approx 236)$ with binding energy $7.6 \mathrm{MeV} /$ Nucleon dissociated into middle mass nuclides $(\mathrm{A} \approx 118)$, having binding energy of $8.6 \mathrm{MeV} /$ Nucleon. The energy released in the process would be $\mathrm{MeV}$.

Show Answer

Answer: (236)

Solution:

$\mathrm{Q}=\mathrm{BE}{\text {Product }}-\mathrm{BE}{\text {Rectant }}$

$=2(118)(8.6)-236(7.6)$

$=236 \times 1=236 \mathrm{MeV}$
