Atomic Physics Question 3

Question 3 - 2024 (27 Jan Shift 1)

The radius of third stationary orbit of electron for Bohr’s atom is R. The radius of fourth stationary orbit will be:

(1) $\frac{4}{3} \mathrm{R}$

(2) $\frac{16}{9} R$

(3) $\frac{3}{4} R$

(4) $\frac{9}{16} \mathrm{R}$

Show Answer

Answer: (2)

Solution:

$r \propto \frac{n^{2}}{Z}$

$\frac{r_{4}}{r_{3}}=\frac{4^{2}}{3^{2}}$

$r_{4}=\frac{16}{9} R$
