Magnetic Effects Of Current Question 6

Question 6 - 25 January - Shift 1

A solenoid of 1200 turns is wound uniformly in a single layer on a glass tube $2 m$ long and $0.2 m$ in diameter. The magnetic intensity at the center of the solenoid when a current of 2 A flows through it is:

(1) $2.4 \times 10^{3} A m^{-1}$

(2) $1.2 \times 10^{3} A m^{-1}$

(3) $1 A m^{-1}$

(4) $2.4 \times 10^{-3} A m^{-1}$

Show Answer

Answer: (2)

Solution:

Formula: Magnetic field due to solenoid

Magnetic field at centre inside the solenoid is given by

$B=\mu_0 nI$

So magnetic intensity at centre

$H=\frac{B}{\mu_0}=nI=(\frac{1200}{2})(2)$

$H=1.2 \times 10^{3} Am^{-1}$
