Supreme Court Issues Notice on NTA Plea to Transfer NEET Cases to Top Court

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to students who have filed petitions in various High Courts, seeking their response to a request made by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to transfer their cases to the top court. The NTA, which has been under scrutiny over the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024, has applied to the Supreme Court to take over the pending cases in the High Courts.

A three-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, has issued the notice to the students who are the petitioners in the High Courts. The Bench, which also includes Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, is currently hearing over 40 separate petitions seeking various reliefs, including a fresh NEET exam and the abolition of the NTA itself.

The NTA has requested the Supreme Court to link its petitions to transfer the High Court cases with the ongoing petitions, which are being heard by the Bench. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the NEET case on July 18, and the primary question before the court is whether to order a re-test or not.

The court has made it clear that its first priority is to examine whether the wrongdoers among the exam-takers can be segregated from the innocent students. The court has also emphasized that it does not want to pass any orders that would upset the future of the 23 lakh students who took the NEET exam on May 5.

The Supreme Court’s decision on the NEET case is crucial, as it will determine the fate of the students who took the exam. The court’s ruling will also have a significant impact on the NTA and its conduct of the exam. The students who have filed petitions in the High Courts are eagerly waiting for the court’s decision, which is expected to bring clarity to the situation.
