In a remarkable achievement, 18-year-old Rohini from the tribal community in Pachamalai Hills of Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu, has become the first tribal girl from her district to secure admission to a prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT). Rohini’s outstanding performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) has earned her a seat in the Chemical Engineering program at NIT Trichy, allocated through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
Rohini’s journey to success began in a government school, where she was encouraged by her teachers to pursue her dreams. Despite the challenges she faced, she worked hard and scored an impressive 73.8% in JEE Mains, emerging as the top scorer among students from 29 tribal schools in the state. Her achievement is a testament to her determination and the support she received from her teachers and the Tamil Nadu state government, which has agreed to cover all her fees.
Rohini expressed her gratitude to her teachers, who motivated her to appear for various exams, including NEET, CLAT, and JEE, over the past two years. “I am thankful to my teachers for their hard work and encouragement,” she said. “They believed in me and pushed me to strive for excellence. I hope to inspire and assist students from my school to achieve similar success.”
Rohini’s parents, both construction workers, had migrated to Kerala in search of a better future for their children. Her achievement not only brings pride to her family but also serves as an inspiration to many in her community. Rohini’s story is a shining example of the power of education and the impact it can have on individuals and communities.
