JEE Main 2024 Session 2: All You Need to Know

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024 Session 2, starting from April 4th. This prestigious exam is a crucial step for students seeking admission to undergraduate engineering programs across India. In this article, we will delve into the exam pattern, syllabus, and other important details to help you prepare for the big day.

JEE Main 2024 Session 1: A Success Story

The NTA successfully conducted the JEE Main 2024 Session 1 in January 2024, with a significant increase in the number of registered candidates. A total of 1,221,624 students registered for the exam, reflecting a 27% rise from the previous year’s count of 860,064. The exam was conducted in 10 shifts across 544 centers in 291 cities, including 21 international centers.

JEE Main 2024 Syllabus: A Reduction in Content

The JEE Main 2024 syllabus has undergone a reduction in specific topics across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The overall syllabus has been reduced by 25% to 35% depending on the subject. This move aims to streamline the content and potentially reduce the pressure on students. The removed topics include:

  • Physics: Communication Systems, Experimental Skills, and Thomson and Rutherford’s atomic models and their limitations
  • Chemistry: Physical quantities and their measurements, States of Matter, Surface Chemistry, s-Block Elements, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals, Hydrogen, Environmental Chemistry, and Polymers
  • Mathematics: Three Dimensional Geometry

JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern

The JEE Main 2024 follows a computer-based test (CBT) format with two papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) and Paper 2 (B.Arch./B.Plan.).

  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.): This paper assesses knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, consisting of 90 questions (30 from each subject) carrying a total of 300 marks. Each subject has two sections: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options and 10 Numerical Value Questions (NVQs) with one or more correct answers.
  • Paper 2 (B.Arch./B.Plan.): This paper caters to students seeking admission to Architecture and Planning programs, comprising 105 questions (30 Mathematics, 50 Aptitude, and 2 Drawing) with a total of 300 marks. The format is similar to Paper 1, with 30 MCQs and 10 NVQs, plus 50 questions testing spatial reasoning, imagination, and aesthetic sense, and two questions requiring drawing skills.
