Should NEET UG Re-exam be Conducted for All Students who Appeared in May 2024? Netizens Weigh In

A crucial hearing is set to take place on July 11, 2024, as a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice J B Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra will deliberate on the alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET UG 2024. The bench has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to provide a detailed account of the paper leak, including when it occurred, how the question papers were disseminated, and the time gap between the leak and the actual exam.

In the midst of this controversy, Hindustan Times conducted a poll to gauge public opinion on whether the NEET UG Re-exam should be conducted for all students who appeared in May 2024. The poll received 727 responses, with a staggering 68% of respondents advocating for a re-exam for all students. On the other hand, 26% of respondents believe that the re-exam should not be conducted for all students, while 6% are unsure about the decision.

The Centre and the NTA, responsible for conducting the NEET UG examination, have argued that scrapping the exam would be “counterproductive” and “seriously jeopardise” the prospects of lakhs of honest candidates in the absence of concrete evidence of large-scale breach of confidentiality.

Interestingly, Hindustan Times conducted a similar poll on June 21, 2024, to determine public opinion on whether the NEET exam 2024 should be scrapped completely or re-examined for a few students. The results showed that 56% of respondents believed that the exam should be scrapped completely, while 40% thought that re-examining a few students was the correct approach. A mere 4% of respondents were undecided.

The NEET UG paper leak has sparked widespread outrage, with students and parents demanding justice and accountability. The CBI has recently arrested two individuals, including a candidate, from Bihar in connection with the case.

As the Supreme Court deliberates on the matter, the public’s opinion remains divided. Will the NEET UG Re-exam be conducted for all students who appeared in May 2024? Only time will tell.
