IIT-JEE Topper’s Journey: From Panchkula to Quantitative Trader

Meet Sarvesh Mehtani, a 2017 IIT-Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) topper from Panchkula, Chandigarh, who has made a remarkable transition from being a student to a successful quantitative trader. Sarvesh’s incredible journey is a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and passion for learning.

Born to an income tax officer, Parvesh Mehtani, and Raj Bala, who works for the Haryana government’s industrial training department, Sarvesh’s upbringing was marked by a strong emphasis on education. His parents instilled in him a sense of responsibility and encouraged him to strive for excellence. Sarvesh’s father, Parvesh, had initially aimed for his son to break into the top 10 in the highly competitive examination, but Sarvesh had set his sights even higher – to finish in the top 10 of the incredibly difficult exam.

Sarvesh’s academic journey began with a flawless CGPA of 10 in Class 10 and an impressive 95.4 percent in the Board Examinations for Class 12. He spent a significant amount of time studying, dedicating five to six hours a day and eight to ten hours on holidays to prepare for the 2017 JEE Advanced exam. His hard work paid off, as he secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 1 with a score of 339 out of 366.

After topping the JEE exam, Sarvesh pursued a B.Tech in Computer Science at IIT Bombay, one of India’s most prestigious engineering schools. His academic career continued to flourish, and he soon realized the value of lifelong learning and exposure to various cultures. This realization led him to a career as a quantitative trader, where he creates high-frequency trading methods for financial derivatives.

In his free time, Sarvesh enjoyed playing badminton, watching TV cartoons, and listening to music. His mother, Raj Bala, recalled that Sarvesh made reviewing his curriculum every day before bed a habit, and he never viewed education as a burden. Sarvesh’s dedication and passion for learning have taken him from being an IIT-JEE topper to a successful quantitative trader, making him an inspiration to many young minds.

Sarvesh’s story is a shining example of what can be achieved with determination, hard work, and a supportive family. His journey serves as a reminder that with the right mindset and approach, even the most challenging exams can be conquered, and a bright future can be secured.
