SSC CHSL 2024: Exam Details and Guidelines

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the start date for the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Tier-1 exam 2024, which is scheduled to take place from July 1st, 2024. The computer-based test (CBT) will be conducted in three daily shifts across the country, aiming to recruit candidates for various Central Government departments, including Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO) positions.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The SSC CHSL Tier-1 exam consists of four sections, each designed to assess a candidate’s skills and knowledge in specific areas. The sections are:

  • General Intelligence (Reasoning): This section tests a candidate’s analytical and logical reasoning abilities, covering topics such as analogies, classifications, series completion, coding-decoding, blood relations, puzzles, and more. (50 marks)
  • Quantitative Aptitude: This section evaluates a candidate’s numerical ability and problem-solving skills, covering topics like number systems, simplification, HCF, LCM, averages, percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, mensuration, time and work, and more. (50 marks)
  • General Awareness: This section assesses a candidate’s knowledge of current affairs, history, geography, science, polity, economics, and other areas of general knowledge. (50 marks)
  • English Language: This section tests a candidate’s proficiency in English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. (50 marks)

The total number of questions is 100, and the total marks are 200. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

SSC CHSL Tier-II: Descriptive Paper

The Tier-II exam consists of a descriptive paper, which will be conducted in offline mode. The details are:

  • Mode: Pen and Paper
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Format: Essay (200-250 words) and Letter/Application Writing (150-200 words)
  • Language: English or Hindi

SSC CHSL Tier-III: Skill Test/Typing Test

The Tier-III exam consists of a skill test/typing test, which will be conducted in offline mode. The details are:

  • Data Entry Speed: 8,000 Key Depressions per hour (for DEO posts)
  • Duration: 15 minutes (for DEO posts)
  • Typing Speed: 35 words per minute (for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, LDC, and Court Clerk posts) and 30 words per minute (for DEO posts)
  • Duration: 10 minutes (for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, LDC, and Court Clerk posts)

Important Dates

The important dates for the SSC CHSL 2024 exam are:

  • Application Period: April 8, 2024 - May 7, 2024
  • Admit Card Download: Expected by June 27, 2024 (Region-wise)
  • Tier-1 Exam Dates: July 1st - July 11th, 2024 (Three daily shifts)

What to Expect on Exam Day

Candidates must download their admit cards from the official SSC website (https://ssc.nic.in/) well before the exam date. The admit card will contain details like exam venue, shift timings, and roll number. It’s crucial to reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time to undergo security checks. Candidates must also bring the following documents:

  • Admit card
  • Photo ID
  • Two passport-sized photographs

Prohibited Items

Candidates are not allowed to bring the following items to the exam centre:

  • Electronic gadgets
  • Mobile phones
  • Calculators
  • Any study material
