NEET PG 2024, postponed on exam eve last month, to be now held on August 11
The NEET-PG entrance examination will now take place on August 11 in two shifts, as announced by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on Friday.
The NBEMS stated, “Following our notice dated June 22, 2024, the NEET-PG 2024 exam has been rescheduled. It will now be conducted on August 11, 2024, in two shifts. The cut-off date for eligibility to appear in the NEET-PG 2024 remains August 15, 2024.” The Centre had postponed the NEET-PG 2024 last month as a ‘precautionary measure.’
On June 22, the Centre decided to postpone the NEET-PG exam due to concerns about the integrity of certain competitive exams. The Ministry of Health announced that it would conduct a thorough review of the NEET-PG exam processes, which are managed by the NBEMS.
The Ministry of Health explained, “Considering recent allegations about the integrity of some competitive exams, we have decided to thoroughly assess the robustness of the NEET-PG Entrance Examination processes, conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students.”
The NEET-PG is a national-level entrance exam for admission to various medical courses, including post MBBS DNB courses, post MBBS direct 6-year DrNB courses, and NBEMS diploma courses offered by medical colleges across India.
In addition to NEET-PG, the Centre also canceled the UGC-NET examination, citing concerns about the exam’s integrity. The UGC-NET exam will now be held in August-September. The UGC-NET determines eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship, assistant professor appointments, and PhD admissions.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) UGC-NET, which was also postponed due to concerns about exam irregularities, will now take place from July 25 to July 27. The CSIR UGC-NET is used for PhD admissions in fields such as Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
