NEET Fiasco: Students Demand Abolition of NTA and State-Level Entrance Test in Karnataka

On July 4, students from the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) in Mysuru held a protest at the clock tower on the Manasagangotri campus of the University of Mysore. They were calling for the National Testing Agency (NTA) to be abolished due to issues with the NEET exam. The students also asked for a judicial investigation into the NEET-UG, UGC-NET, and NEET-PG exams.

The protesters want strict action against those responsible for the problems with the NEET exam. They also want the medical entrance exam to be conducted at the state level instead of by the NTA.

Nitin, the Vice-President of AIDSO in the district, said that the recent cancellation of the UGC-NET exam and the postponement of the CSIR NET exam are due to alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET UG exam. He described this as the biggest controversy in the country’s education sector and accused the Union government of not caring about the future of many students, showing an anti-student attitude.

AIDSO mentioned that the Centre has removed the Director General of NTA, but has not yet met their demands for the cancellation of NTA and a high-level judicial inquiry.

AIDSO is also demanding a state-level entrance exam for MBBS admissions in Karnataka. The protest is part of a nationwide movement against the NTA and the Centre’s delay in abolishing the NTA.
