NEET 2024 News LIVE: Center Opposes NEET Re-Exam Before Supreme Court, Counselling Likely To Begin Today
NEET 2024 News: A group of 65 medical students from Gujarat has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the National Testing Agency (NTA) from canceling the NEET-UG 2024 exam. This comes ahead of an important hearing on July 8 before a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud.
The students who filed the petition want the current results to be used for medical admissions, except for those who cheated during the exam. The petition was submitted at a time when the central government has already stated that NEET will not be canceled. The government emphasized that the careers of many students who passed the exam fairly should not be affected by a few cases of cheating.
The petitioners have asked the Supreme Court to issue an order to the NTA, preventing them from canceling the NEET-UG 2024 exams. They argue that canceling the exam would be unfair to students who worked hard and passed honestly. They also claim that a re-exam would violate their fundamental rights under Articles 14 and 21A of the Indian Constitution.
“The Hon’ble court may further direct the respondents not to re-conduct NEET-UG 2024 by cancelling NEET-UG 2024 held on 05.05.2024 as that would not only be unreasonable and harsh for the honest and hardworking students but also would lead to the infringement of the Right to Education and therefore violative of Article 14 of the Constitution of India, 1950,” said the petition.
