Nearly 39 Candidates Banned for 3 Years from JEE for Cheating

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that 39 candidates have been banned for three years from the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2024 due to cheating.

Earlier, the NTA reported one case of impersonation and nine cases of cheating on the first day of the JEE-Main Session 2. These cases were detected using AI tools, specifically iFace, which were used to monitor for any cheating during the exam.

The NTA introduced the AI technology called iFace to verify the identity of exam candidates. This technology cross-checks the photo on the admit card with a live photo taken at the exam center. Additionally, candidates had to go through mandatory frisking and electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) procedures. The NTA also deployed a large team to provide biometric authentication, frisking, CCTV surveillance, and jamming services.

The JEE Main exam was held in two sessions this year. The first session took place on January 28, 29, 30, 31, and February 1. The second session was held from April 4 to 9. The results for Paper 1 (BE/BTech) were announced on April 24, 2024.

After the results were declared, some candidates raised concerns about their scorecards not being displayed. The NTA had already informed through public notices and the JEE (Main) 2024 information bulletin that multiple application forms submitted by a candidate would not be accepted and would lead to the cancellation of their result.

The NTA’s notification stated that any candidate with more than one application number or more than one scorecard would be considered as using unfair means, even if discovered later. Strict action would be taken against such candidates. Following the court’s direction, a candidate cannot have two scorecards with different application numbers for the same exam in a year. Therefore, for candidates who appeared more than once with different application numbers, the NTA has declared their best scores in the scorecard.
