JEE Main Result 2024: Road to IITs Gets Tougher as Cut-off Increases by 2.45%

The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the JEE Main 2024 Session 2 results on April 24. Students who took the JEE Main April session can check their scores on the official website, jeemain.nta.ac.in.

In the 2024 exams, 9.24 lakh candidates registered, and 8.2 lakh appeared for the exams held in January and April.

Increase in 100 Percentilers

This year, the number of students scoring 100 percentile has increased by 13 compared to 2023. A total of 56 candidates achieved a perfect NTA score in Paper 1 (BE/BTech), including two girls, Sanvi Jain from Karnataka and Shayna Sinha from Delhi. Last year, 43 candidates scored 100 percentile, with only one girl, Ridhi Kamlesh Kumar Maheshwari from Karnataka, among them.

In the January session, 23 students scored 100 percentile. Telangana led with seven students achieving this milestone, followed by Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan with three each. Delhi and Haryana had two students each, while Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Karnataka had one student each scoring perfect marks.

Telangana Reports Highest Number of Toppers

Telangana continues to lead with the highest number of 100 percentilers in JEE Main. In 2023, 11 students from Telangana scored 100 percentile, which increased to 15 this year. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh each have seven students with 100 percentile, compared to two and five in 2023, respectively.

Delhi NCR saw an increase from two 100 percentilers in 2023 to six in 2024, followed by Rajasthan with seven toppers.

Some states like West Bengal, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, which had a topper each last year, did not have any 100 percentilers this time. Uttar Pradesh, which had four 100 percentilers last year, only had one this time.

Registrations

A total of 924,636 candidates registered for both sessions (January/April) of the JEE Main 2024 examination, and 822,899 appeared. In January 2024 (session 1), 1,221,624 candidates registered, and 1,170,048 appeared. In April 2024 (session 2), 1,179,569 candidates registered, and 1,067,959 appeared.

The total number of unique candidates registered in both sessions was 1,476,557, with 1,415,110 appearing for the exams.

For the session 2 exams, 1,067,959 candidates appeared, including 377,921 general students, 134,465 general EWS, 416,440 OBC-NCL, 103,422 SC, and 35,711 ST candidates.

Last year, the total number of registrations increased from 10.26 lakh in 2022 to 11.62 lakh in 2023, with 11.13 lakh candidates appearing in both sessions of the exam held on 13 dates between January 24 and April 15.

JEE Cut-off

For general category candidates, the cut-off for JEE (Advanced) is 93.23, up from 90.77 in 2023, 88.4 in 2022, and 87.9 in 2021. The qualifying scores for general candidates were 90.3 in 2020 and 89.7 in 2019.

For SC candidates, the cut-off is 60.09, up from 51.97 in 2023, 43.08 in 2022, 46.8 in 2021, 50.1 in 2020, and 54.01 in 2019. The cut-off for ST students is 46.69, up from 37.23 in 2023, 26.7 in 2022, and 34.6 in 2021. The bar was higher in 2020 and 2019 with qualifying scores at 39.06 and 44.3, respectively.

The OBC (non-creamy layer) cut-off has increased to 79.67 from 73.61 in 2023, 67 in 2022, 68.02 in 2021, and 72.8 in 2020. For the EWS category candidates, the cut-off is 75.62, compared to last year’s 63.11.
