SFI Protests Against NEET and NET Exam Irregularities in Kolkata

Kolkata, Members of the CPI(M)’s student wing, SFI, held protests outside two universities in Kolkata on Thursday. They were part of a day-long strike to protest against alleged irregularities in the NEET and UGC NET exams. The students burned tyres in front of one of the gates of Jadavpur University in the southern part of the city and also in front of the main gate of Presidency University in the College Street area. They demanded the arrest of those responsible for the alleged irregularities in the exams.

The protesting students carried placards and called for action against the National Testing Agency, which organized the medical entrance exam. They also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. At Presidency University, SFI members blocked the busy College Street for 30 minutes, causing traffic disruptions for a while.

An SFI spokesperson from Presidency University said, “We congratulate the students for making the strike a success.” Abhinaba Basu, a member of the SFI’s Jadavpur University unit, mentioned that the protesters received support from most students and did not prevent anyone from entering the campus.

The SFI’s state unit also organized several protest rallies in other parts of West Bengal throughout the day to address the issue.
