SFI Activists Protest Against NEET and UGC-NET Exam ‘Irregularities’

On Thursday, activists from the student wing of the CPI(M), known as SFI, held protests outside two universities in the city. This was part of a day-long student strike against alleged irregularities in the NEET and UGC NET exams.

At Jadavpur University, the protesters burned tires at one gate. They also held a sit-in at the main gate of Presidency University. Their main demand was the arrest of those responsible for the alleged exam issues.

The protesting students carried placards and called for action against the National Testing Agency, which conducted the NEET exam. They also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The strike, organized by SFI, disrupted classes at several universities where the Left students’ union is active.

Abhinaba Basu, an SFI member at Jadavpur University, said that the protesters had strong support from other students and made sure there were no disruptions for people entering the campus. He added, “Our peaceful protests will continue until the afternoon.”

The state unit of the students’ body has planned more protest rallies throughout the day in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal on this issue.
