JEE Main 2024 Session 2 Starts on April 4: Check the Syllabus, Exam Pattern, and Other Details

The eagerly awaited Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2024 session 2 is set to begin on April 4th. This prestigious exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is a crucial step for students aspiring to join undergraduate engineering programs across India. JEE Main serves as the gateway to a wide array of engineering courses, helping countless students achieve their academic dreams.

Increased Participation in Session 1

The National Testing Agency (NTA) successfully conducted JEE Main 2024 Session 1 in January 2024. This session took place across 544 centers in 291 cities, including 21 international centers. There was a noticeable increase in the number of registered candidates, with 1,221,624 students signing up for the exam. This marks a significant 27% rise from the previous year’s 860,064 candidates. However, the exam was conducted in 10 shifts, which is two fewer than the previous year.

Reduced Syllabus for JEE Main 2024

The JEE Main 2024 syllabus has been reduced in specific topics across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The overall syllabus has been cut by 25% to 35%, depending on the subject, to streamline the content and reduce pressure on students.

Removed Chapters in Physics:

  • Communication Systems (from Unit – Electronic Devices)
  • A few topics from Experimental Skills

Removed Chapters in Chemistry:

  • Physical quantities and their measurements, precision, and accuracy, significant figures (from Unit – Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry)
  • States of Matter (from Unit – States of Matter)
  • Thomson and Rutherford’s atomic models and their limitations (from Unit – Atomic Structure)
  • Surface Chemistry (from Unit – Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure)
  • s-Block Elements (from Unit – Periodic Classification of Elements)
  • General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals (from Unit – Metallurgy)
  • Hydrogen (from Unit – The s-Block Elements)
  • Environmental Chemistry (from Unit – Environmental Chemistry)
  • Polymers (from Unit – Biomolecules)
  • Chemistry in Everyday Life (from Unit – Chemistry in Everyday Life)

Removed Chapters in Mathematics:

  • A few topics within Three Dimensional Geometry

Shifting Weightage

The weightage for Mathematics has increased slightly from 30% to 35%, while Physics and Chemistry have seen a minor decrease from 25% each to 22.5% each. This change emphasizes the importance of having a strong foundation in Mathematics.

JEE Main Syllabus

Physics:

  • Focus on core topics like Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics.

Chemistry:

  • Core areas like Chemical Bonding, Periodic Classification, and Organic Chemistry remain central.

Mathematics:

  • Emphasis on core concepts like Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, and Vectors.

JEE Main Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2024 follows a computer-based test (CBT) format with two papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) and Paper 2 (B.Arch./B.Plan.).

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.):

  • Assesses knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Consists of 90 questions (30 from each subject) carrying a total of 300 marks.
  • Each subject has two sections:
    • 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with four options (1 mark each, negative marking for wrong answers)
    • 10 Numerical Value Questions (NVQs) with one or more correct answers (4 marks each, no negative marking)

Paper 2 (B.Arch./B.Plan.):

  • Caters to students seeking admission to Architecture and Planning programs.
  • Comprises 105 questions (30 Mathematics, 50 Aptitude, and 2 Drawing) with a total of 300 marks.
  • Similar format to Paper 1 with 30 MCQs and 10 NVQs.
  • 50 questions testing spatial reasoning, imagination, and aesthetic sense.
  • Two questions requiring drawing skills (25 marks each).

Important Dates

  • The application window for JEE Main 2024 (both sessions) has closed.
  • Session 2 Exam Dates: April 4th to April 12th, 2024
