20th India-US Joint Military Exercise ‘YUDH ABHYAS’ Commences in Rajasthan
- On September 9, 2024, the 20th edition of the India-United States Joint Military Exercise ‘YUDH ABHYAS’ began at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana Completes 5 Years of Successful Implementation
- The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY), a Central Sector Scheme providing social security to landholding Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs), has completed 5 years since its launch on September 12, 2019.
- Administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in partnership with the Life Insurance Corporation of India, the scheme offers a fixed monthly pension of Rs 3,000 to eligible SMFs after they reach the age of 60.
- PM-KMY is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme aimed at ensuring better income for farmers in their old age.
- The scheme has been instrumental in providing financial security to farmers across the country.

MoD Signed Rs 26,000 Crore Contract with HAL for 240 AL-31FP Aero Engines
- On September 9, 2024, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a Rs 26,000 crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 240 AL-31FP Aero Engines for Su-30MKI aircraft.
- The contract aims to fulfill the Indian Air Force’s requirements to sustain the operational capability of the Su-30 fleet.
- These aero-engines will be manufactured at HAL’s Koraput division in Odisha, with an annual supply of 30 engines over the next 8 years.
- By the end of the delivery program, HAL aims to enhance the indigenization content up to 63%.

- Nepal has become the 101st country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as a full member.
- The Instrument of Ratification was exchanged between Nepal’s Charge d’Affaires Dr. Surendra Thapa and Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary of Economic Diplomacy Multilateral Economic Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, India.
- The ISA was established in 2015 as a joint effort by India and France to mobilize efforts against climate change through solar energy solutions.
- ISA’s ‘Towards 1000’ strategy targets mobilizing USD 1 trillion investments in solar energy by 2030, providing clean energy access to 1 billion people, and installing 1 terawatt of solar energy capacity.

- Researchers have also discovered a new species of Curcuma named ‘Curcuma ungmensis’ in Nagaland.
