Video of Indian Woman Drying Clothes on Dubai Hotel Balcony Sparks Online Debate
“Mom duties,” commented Atlantis, The Palm Hotel.
A video showing an Indian woman drying clothes on the balcony of a luxurious Dubai hotel has gone viral, sparking mixed reactions online. The video was posted on Instagram by user Pallavi Venkatesh, who filmed her mother hanging clothes to dry on the balcony of Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. The video also showed another balcony with clothes drying in the sun. The text on the video read, “Moms just momming at Palm Atlantis.”
The video, shared a few days ago, has quickly gained attention, with people either praising or criticizing the woman. The hotel itself responded to the viral video, commenting, “Mom duties,” along with an applauding emoji. They added, “We hope you enjoyed your stay! (We include a retractable drying cord in every bathroom, so that you can dry your clothing over the bath).”

The user replied to the hotel’s comment, explaining that they didn’t have enough time to dry their clothes and preferred to use the Dubai weather to dry them quickly.
In the comments section, some users praised the mother-daughter duo. One user wrote, “When you are rich enough to book hotel rooms in Palm Atlantis, then you shouldn’t care about what people think of you or how your manners are. Also, this is the most effective way of drying clothes.”
Another user quipped, “You can take mom out of India but to take India out of mom is just impossible.” Someone else added, “Love the caption. The problem is people make a big deal out of such cute little moments. More than the luxury, it is such moments one remembers from holidays.”
However, some users criticized the act. One user commented, “This is bad manners in other countries. Respect the rules of the hotel that you are staying in.” Another added, “It’s illegal to do this in Dubai! You can get fined, check the laws.”
A third user expressed, “The problem with desi parents is the belief that whatever they do is right. That’s why our generation has been embarrassed by our parents all our lives.”
