35 Rockets and Missiles Fired from Lebanon Hit Israel

Jerusalem: On Thursday evening, around 35 rockets and missiles launched from Lebanon hit the city of Safed in northern Israel. This caused fires, power outages, and damage to property, according to the Israeli military.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that their Aerial Defence Array managed to intercept most of the rockets. Fortunately, the Magen David Adom rescue service reported that there were no deaths or injuries.

One of the rockets hit a house, as confirmed by the Merom HaGalil Regional Council. The Fire and Rescue Authority also noted that several fires broke out and some people were trapped in elevators due to the power cuts.

Hezbollah, a Lebanese armed group, claimed responsibility for the attack. They said they fired Katyusha rockets at the Israeli air base in Safed in retaliation for Israeli attacks on Nabatieh in southern Lebanon and Sohmor in eastern Lebanon the previous day, according to Xinhua news agency.

Lebanese military sources informed Xinhua that some of the rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.

These new attacks by Hezbollah come amid increasing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. Israel has warned that it is prepared to launch a full-scale offensive against Hezbollah.

Earlier in the day, the IDF reported that Israeli warplanes struck a Hezbollah military site in the southern Lebanese village of Ramyah, killing two Hezbollah operatives in the village of At Tiri.

On the same day, unnamed Lebanese military sources confirmed to Xinhua that three Hezbollah members were killed and a fourth was injured in two Israeli airstrikes on Ramyah and Haddatha.

Tensions have been escalating along the Lebanon-Israel border since October 8, 2023. This follows a rocket attack by Hezbollah on Israel, showing their support for a surprise attack on southern Israel by Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip the day before.
