Why Virat Kohli’s Form Isn’t a Worry for India Ahead of T20 World Cup Final Against South Africa

NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has stated that he isn’t worried about Virat Kohli’s current form. Instead, he believes the overall performance of the Indian team is more crucial as they gear up for the T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Saturday.

Since arriving for the big event, Kohli has struggled to find his rhythm and score runs. Despite his difficulties, other Indian players have stepped up, leading the team to the final without losing a single match. Kohli has only managed to score 75 runs at an average of 10.71 in seven matches, which is below his usual standards.

Manjrekar, who appears as an expert on the ‘Caught and Bold’ show on Disney+ Hotstar, told ANI that he values the team’s form over individual performances. “I’m not really concerned about Virat Kohli’s form because the team’s form is far more important,” he said.

Manjrekar is hopeful about India’s chances of winning the World Cup, thanks to their new playing strategy. “India can definitely lift the World Cup in 2024. They have discovered a new, modern way of playing T20 cricket, and it’s working very well so far,” he added.

The final will see two unbeaten teams, India and South Africa, facing off. Manjrekar discussed the potential threats from key South African players, highlighting their fast bowlers and top-order batsmen. “I would say one of the fast bowlers, either Anrich Nortje or Rabada. In batting, Quinton De Kock for sure,” he noted.

India’s journey to the final has been characterized by a fearless approach under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Manjrekar believes this new strategy could finally end India’s long wait for an ICC World Cup victory.
