US Open 2024: Treesa-Gayatri Win a Thrilling Match

The young Indian women’s doubles team of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the quarterfinals after a nail-biting three-game match at the US Open Super 300 tournament in Texas, USA, on Thursday.

In other matches, Priyanshu Rajawat and Malvika Bansod also secured victories in their respective second-round matches. However, the men’s doubles team of Sai Pratheek and Krishna Prasad faced a defeat.

A Thrilling Encounter

The second-seeded Indian duo of Treesa and Gayatri faced a tough challenge from the lower-ranked Chinese Taipei pair of Pei Shan Hsieh and En-Tzu Hung in their second-round match.

The Taipei team surprised the Indians by taking the first game 21-16. But Treesa and Gayatri bounced back strongly, winning the second game 21-11 with ease.

The final game was extremely close, with the Indian pair trailing 16-18 in the closing moments. However, they managed to stay calm and won five of the last six points to clinch the game 21-19.

Next, they will focus on reducing their mistakes as they prepare to face the sixth-seeded Japanese pair of Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato in the quarterfinals.

Priyanshu and Malvika Move Forward

Priyanshu Rajawat and Malvika Bansod continued their impressive performance in the tournament, reaching the quarterfinals.

Priyanshu won his match in straight games (21-18, 21-16) against Chinese Taipei’s Yu Kai Huang. Malvika, on the other hand, had to fight hard in a three-game match (15-21, 21-19, 21-14) to defeat Tereza Svabikova from the Czech Republic.

The only setback of the day came in the men’s doubles, where Sai Pratheek and Krishna Prasad Garaga lost a very close three-game match (17-21, 21-19, 19-21) to the American pair of Chen Zhi Yi and Presley Smith.
