Seven Dead, Three Injured in Collision on Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway
NEW DELHI: A tragic accident on the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway in Maharashtra’s Jalna district resulted in the deaths of seven people and left three others seriously injured. The collision occurred around 11 PM on Friday near Kadvanchi village. The crash involved residents from Malad (East) in Mumbai and Buldhana district.
According to a police official, the accident happened when a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai collided head-on with a car coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that six people died on the spot, and another person died later at a hospital. The force of the collision caused the MUV to break through the crash barrier and fall off the road.
Local villagers and police quickly arrived at the scene to help rescue the victims trapped in the wreckage. Dr. Umesh Jadhav, a medical officer at the Government District Hospital in Jalna, confirmed that six bodies were brought in for post-mortem, and three injured individuals are receiving treatment. “Six bodies were brought to the hospital for post-mortem. Three injured persons are being treated here, while one critically injured person who was shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district died later,” Dr. Jadhav said.
He also mentioned that three of the deceased were from Mumbai, and three others were from Buldhana district. The identity of one person who was shifted to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is still unknown. “The three injured persons are from Mumbai,” he added.
The Samruddhi Highway, also known as the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, is a major 701-kilometer six-lane expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur. The first phase, which links Nagpur to Shirdi, was opened in December 2022.
