Tata Steel to Take Legal Action Over UK Plant Strike

MUMBAI: Tata Steel is planning to legally challenge the decision of its UK unit’s trade union to call for an indefinite strike starting on July 8. The strike is in response to Tata Steel’s plan to shut down certain parts of its operations at the Port Talbot site. Specifically, the company intends to close two blast furnaces and replace them with electric arc furnaces, which produce lower carbon emissions. This change will result in the loss of 2,800 jobs. However, the switch to electric arc furnaces is supported by £500 million from the government and is expected to help Tata Steel improve its struggling UK business.
