The First Woman Chief Justice of Lahore Takes Oath
On July 11, Justice Aalia Neelum took the oath as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) in Pakistan, becoming the first woman to hold this position. The oath was administered by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan. Punjab’s first woman Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, was also present at the ceremony.

Haryana Cabinet Approves IT Saksham Yuva Scheme to Provide 5,000 Jobs in First Phase
The Haryana Cabinet has approved the IT Saksham Yuva Scheme, 2024, which aims to provide jobs to 5,000 youths in its first phase. This scheme is part of the ‘Mission 60,000’ from the 2024-25 budget, which aims to employ 60,000 young people from poor families. Graduates or postgraduates from IT backgrounds will undergo short-term courses for at least three months. After training, they will be placed in various departments, boards, corporations, districts, registered societies, and private entities. Participants will receive ₹20,000 per month for the first six months, followed by ₹25,000. If not placed, an unemployment allowance of ₹10,000 per month will be provided.
East India’s First Disabled Varsity at Ranchi: Jharkhand
The Jharkhand government is planning to open eastern India’s first university for physically challenged students in Ranchi. The proposed university will offer education tailored to the needs of students with disabilities. Higher and Technical Education Minister Champai Soren has directed officials to prepare a proposal for this university.
CM Adityanath Inaugurates Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival
On June 12, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the state would export 40 tonnes of mangoes to Japan and Malaysia. For the first time, Lucknow’s famous Dussehri mangoes will be exported to the United States. He made this announcement while inaugurating the Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival 2024 at Awadh Shilp Gram in Lucknow.

Inflation and Industrial Production Data – June 2024
In June 2024, India’s retail inflation reached a four-month high of 5.08%, mainly due to a sharp rise in food prices, especially vegetables, amidst extended heatwave conditions. This marks the 57th consecutive month that inflation has been above the RBI’s 4% target range, limiting the chances of immediate interest rate cuts.
India’s Industrial Production Growth Hits 5.9% in May 2024
In May 2024, India’s industrial output grew by 5.9% compared to the previous year, marking the highest growth in seven months. This growth was driven by significant contributions from electricity generation and consumer durables.
Consumer Price Index (CPI) Numbers for June 2024
In June 2024, the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed a year-on-year inflation rate of 5.08%. Rural inflation was at 5.66%, while urban inflation was at 4.39%. Compared to May 2024, inflation for essential items like ‘Eggs’, ‘Spices’, ‘Meat & fish’, and ‘Pulses & products’ decreased. The CPI for General Indices and Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) also showed increases, with rural CFPI rising by 9.15%. These figures show different price trends affecting various segments of the population across India.
