Landslides Sever Surface Communication in Seven Districts of Arunachal Pradesh

Historical Context: Arunachal Pradesh, a northeastern state of India, is known for its rugged terrain and heavy monsoon rains, which often lead to natural disasters such as landslides. • Geku-Mariyang Inspection: MLA Oni Panyang inspected critical blockage points near Geying village and Pongging View Point. He directed the PWD highway staff to prioritize clearing these areas, estimating a resolution time of five to ten days, depending on weather conditions.
• Water Supply Disruption: Incessant rain has disrupted water supply to Aalo in West Siang district and Likabali township in Lower Siang district due to floods and landslides.

Changlang District:

• Vijaynagar Valley: The valley remains cut off due to landslides and road blockages on the Miao-Vijaynagar (MV) road, which was officially opened in 2022. Massive rocks and uprooted trees have blocked the road at several points, and in some locations, the road has been completely eroded.
• Local Appeals: Utsav Pao, Managing Director of NC Public School in Vijaynagar, described the road’s condition as “pathetic” and called for prompt restoration. Public leader Chizuni Yobin highlighted the shortage of food and essential commodities in the valley and demanded chopper services for medical emergencies and rice supply.

Government Response: It is anticipated that the state government, district administration, and relevant departments will take immediate steps to restore connectivity and address the needs of the affected residents.
