WhatsApp Introduces ‘Event’ Icon for Group Chats

WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging app, has been adding new features through beta updates over the past few months. Recently, the Meta-owned platform has launched a new feature that allows users to create events within group chats. Previously, this feature was only available in the Communities section.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, this new feature is being rolled out to a limited number of beta testers with the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.20 update. It will soon be available to more beta users and eventually to all users through a stable update. The goal of this update is to make it easier to organize meetings or activities directly within WhatsApp chats.

The ‘Event’ icon can be found in the clip menu within group chats. This allows users to easily create and manage events directly in their group chats. In the future, the ‘Event’ icon may include additional features, such as event reminders and the ability to set cover photos.

When a user creates an event, group members can view and accept the invitations. The event creator can also update the event details later. Like all messages on WhatsApp, these events are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security for all participants.

Although WhatsApp has not provided a specific timeline for the global rollout of the Events feature in all group chats, it is expected to be available in the coming weeks. Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced other new features, such as the ability to add up to 32 members in group calls and an AI chatbot.
